A Dance of the Heart

But the time is coming—and is here!—when true worshippers will worship in spirit and truth. The Father looks for those who worship him this way. John 4:23 CEB

Our church has been doing a sermon series entitled, Body Language: Sitting—Not the Only Way to Worship!  Yesterday’s topic, dancing, was one of those topics that has the potential to make people feel a little uncomfortable.  Not me! I have a son and daughter with special needs. Since they were very young, the Lord impressed upon me that though they are physically and cognitively challenged, their spirit is completely intact. Both, from the time they were infants, exhibited a complete abandon in worship through dancing despite the fact that my son is wheelchair bound and my daughter didn’t start walking until the age of seven. I used to call them my dance-a-holics until one time I overheard my daughter telling people she and her brother were dancing alcoholics! Now, I just tell people they love to worship. 🙂 Their worship has no pomp or ceremony. They have no concern how others view them. Their worshipful dance is sincere, joyful and completely untainted!  To me, they are the standard bearers. They are what Jesus described to the Samaritan woman at the well in John 4:4-26. They are “true” worshipers, the kind for which the Father looks.  Truly, their dance is a dance of the heart. LH

This is my daughter the year before she started walking. We were so grateful for our Praise Dance leader, Darlene, who included our daughter on the team and understood that true dance is of the heart and knows no physical limitation.
