Jesus answered by quoting Deuteronomy: “It takes more than bread to stay alive. It takes a steady stream of words from God’s mouth.” Matthew 4:4 MSG
It’s New Year’s day, the time of year to make some changes to improve ourselves. After some prayer and consideration I decided I’m going to eat more!
Every year I am determined to diet and exercise to get to a more healthy weight but this year I am determined to indulge myself in overeating–the only overeating that is Bible endorsed, eating the Word of God!
Hunger is supposed to happen in other places – in distant countries where droughts or famine compel us to give money and send relief workers with food aid. But hunger/starvation is hitting much closer to home. Spiritually speaking, many are starving and malnourished from never “eating” the Word.
Thanks to Bible.com, there is a smorgasbord–I love that word–from which to choose. You can download a free Bible on your phone, tablet, and computer and pick one of the hundreds of Bible reading plans.
Come join me! This year I’m doing a new Bible reading plan I’ve never done before, appropriately called, Eat This Book!
In 2015, may our souls be nourished and cry out as did King David,
“The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.
The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes.
The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever.
The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous.
They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb.
By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward. Psalm 19:7-11 NIV
So, in keeping with my Italian heritage, I say to all of you for the coming year, “Mangia, Mangia!” LH
